What is plastering?
Has plastering got you baffled and wondering what exactly it is? You’re in the right place. Plastering is the process of applying a thin layer of cementitious material onto walls, ceilings, property exteriors and other surfaces to create a smooth, even finish. Plastering is completed for several reasons including providing durability, improving property aesthetics, and providing insulation. Our professional team of plasterers are highly skilled in all areas of plastering, rendering and dry-lining. We have been praised for the speed of application, the level of cleanliness maintained by our plasterers, and the high standard of finish left on completion. Our plasterers are also skilled in the use of stilts and have all of the relevant permits for MEWPS, (scissor lifts and cherry pickers etc).
Types of Plastering & How They’re Used
We are well-established plasterers and offer plastering, rendering and dry-lining services for every type of commercial and residential property. As top plasterers, we have extensive knowledge of the plastering industry including many modern and traditional practices. There are a range of types of plastering available to suit several requirements. Here are just some of the options that we offer…
- General Plastering
General plastering comprises gypsum, lime, sand and water and is a traditional method for plastering. This method is highly versatile and can be used on a range of surfaces including brick, concrete and plasterboard to provide a smooth finish for painting or wallpapering.
- Lime Rendering
Lime rendering is a traditional technique that uses a lime-based mortar for plastering. This technique is typically suited to historic or listed buildings as it delivers fantastic breathability as well as a durable finish that supports natural movement in the structure.
- Monocouche Rendering
This innovative, one-coat rendering system provides a weatherproof and decorative finish for a range of properties. As well as being highly durable and crack-resistant, it is also available in a huge choice of colours and textures for complete customisation.
- Weber, Parex & K-Rend
These popular brands provide coloured render systems, allowing for tailored results that suit your design preferences. Weber, Parex, and K-Rend are most suited to external walls as they are durable and low-maintenance.
- Silicone Rendering
Silicone rendering is favoured among many homeowners for its water-repellent properties and long-lasting durability. Silicone rendering delivers excellent weather resistance and superior breathability, therefore protecting against the risk of damp and mould growth.

Our Plastering Case Studies
We are able to carry all types of plastering, from traditional to modern. We have an extensive knowledge of the plastering industry and are up to date with many modern practices, as well as the traditional aspects. We have worked with English Heritage on several traditional lime rendering projects, and we have sent teams of plasterers to the Ty Mawr Training School in Wales to be taught traditional lime render application and upkeep. Please see the barn conversion photographs in our Project’s Portfolio. This building in Berkhamsted was grade 2 listed, and was fully lime rendered by our team, to the full satisfaction of English Heritage.
We keep up with modern trends such as Monocouche, (through coloured), renders. This incredibly popular rendering system is growing fast. Applied correctly, this will not require painting for up to 20 years and is backed by the manufacturer’s guarantee. There is a huge array of colours available as standard, with most being available at short notice. We use all of the major manufacturers, including Weber, Parex and K rend. One of our recent projects has involved removing the tile-clad facades of a house, replacing this with a cement-based panel, and then applying a Monocouche render finish. This immediately brought the house into 2021 and brightened up the whole building.
We can also install silicone-based versions of the same products. This is a thin coat of render used over external insulation systems and is being used extensively to clad older homes. This will help to keep the home warmer for longer and to bring down the heating bills.
We have plastered many housing developments for companies such as Jarvis and Lovells and have been praised many times for the speed of application, the level of cleanliness maintained by the plasterers, and the high standard of finish left on completion.
Many of our commercial projects, such as Montrose Road in Chelmsford and Raans Road in Amersham do not lend themselves to a plaster skim finish, due to the enormous size of the walls involved. Some of these jumbo partitions can be as high as 16m, and 40m long, so there would be too many day joints that would be difficult to conceal when painted. Here we can have a tape and jointed finish applied instead. Our jointing teams have all the relevant permits for MEWPS, (scissor lifts and cherry pickers etc), and can cover a huge area at one time, ensuring a seamless finish to any size of wall. Our tape and jointers have recently completed all the jointing works for a new Hotel in St Albans, to such a high standard that once painted, it was difficult to know whether the walls and ceilings had been plaster skim-finished or tape and jointed.
