What is office partitioning?

Office partitioning is a quick and effective way of creating individual office space in an open-plan setting. Office partitioning can be fixed permanently in position or can be free-standing. Office partitioning that is fixed in position has the advantages of rigidity, along with fire and sound protection, while a free-standing partition gives you flexibility with what size and shape you want the space to be. Here at Hickey Ltd, we provide an extensive range of office partitioning solutions, all tailored to your unique needs. For more information about our office partitioning, contact us today.

Types of Office Partitioning

Here at Hickey Ltd, we offer several options for office partitioning. We have carried out the installation of many different types of metal stud partitioning. Some of the commercial projects we have completed recently include Montrose Road in Chelmsford and Raans Road in Amersham. Both developments were for Harmonix Construction, whom we still have a great relationship with, and with whom we continue to work together successfully.

The types of walls installed here were varied, from 70mm metal stud walls dividing up the office and welfare areas, to the huge jumbo walls dividing up the commercial space. These were mostly constructed using a 146mm stud, due to the height, with a concealed security mesh fitted to each wall. All our operatives have mechanical platform training, and all carry their cards with them.

Our housing development side installs mile after mile of 48mm and 70mm partitions to newly built housing developments, for several of our clients, Jarvis, Lovells, Stratford etc, and we can either plaster skim finish these walls, or tape and joint them, depending on the clients’ requirements. This quick and easy method of wall construction is far more popular than timber partitions, as there is little chance of cracking with the metal construction, and there is far less weight.

Our acoustic partitions on apartment developments in places such as Mill Hill, Barnet, West Drayton and St Albans have all stood up to the sound reduction requirements specific to each project, and have always, always, passed the sound test when one is carried out.

In December 2022 we completed work on a new 8-storey, 181-bed and suite 5* Hotel in London’s Mayfair, One Hotel. This was for County Contractors, and their attention to detail was extraordinary. We installed the acoustic party walls to all areas, plus internal bathroom walls and acoustic ceilings, to an incredibly high Knauf specification, and laid over 6,500m2 of floor screed on an acoustic base.

In early 2023 we completed the office walls and ceilings to a new development of 10 commercial units for Harmonix Construction in Witham, Essex, and will soon be commencing all of the walls and ceiling installation on a new 5-storey storage unit in High Wycombe for the same company.

We understand the importance of quality installation when it comes to office partitioning. We can install office partitioning quickly and with minimal disruption. Get in touch with us today.

Things To Consider For Your Office Partitioning

When planning office partitioning, there are several things to consider to ensure the continued success of your project. Here are some of the things to think about for your partitioning project…

Purpose of the Partitioning

Defining the purpose of the partitioning is a good starting block for your project as the purpose will likely determine the materials, layout and more. Do you want your office partitioning to create private spaces? Meeting rooms? Quiet work areas? Or even separate departments? Maybe a blend of all of this? Whatever purpose you need office partitioning for, understanding your goals will help in choosing the right type.

Material Selection

We recommend carefully thinking about the materials available for office partitioning as each differs in terms of design, budget and function requirements. Glass, for example, is sleek and modern, wood is warm and traditional and provides better levels of privacy, while metal or aluminium is sturdy and is more suited to contemporary or industrial environments. If you’re not sure which material will best suit your needs, get in touch with Hickey Ltd today for trusted recommendations.

Permanent or Free-Standing

Fixed-position, permanent office partitioning offers structural stability, along with fire and sound protection. On the other hand, free-standing office partitioning gives you flexibility with what size and shape you want the space to be. The purpose of your partitioning will likely determine whether permanent or free-standing partitioning will be best for your office requirements. For example, if your company values expansion and flexibility, free-standing partitioning might be the right option for you. However, if you would prefer to establish clear and dedicated workspaces, permanent partitioning could be the one to choose.

Added Extras: Lighting, Acoustics & Aesthetics

Good lighting, acoustic considerations and the aesthetics of your space can significantly impact the productivity and satisfaction of your employees. Glass partitions, for example, can enhance natural light, whilst still achieving openness and privacy. Metal partitioning can create a stylish and seamless look without compromising function. Noise levels too can impact productivity, so if you work in an open-plan office or a space with heavy footfall, consider partitions with soundproofing qualities.

Compliance with Regulations

Ensure that your partitioning adheres to local building codes, fire safety standards, and accessibility regulations. Non-compliance could result in fines and even legal action. Fortunately, working with experts in office partitioning, such as Hickey Ltd, means that we ensure your partitioning adheres to regulations at every point.
