As plastering and drylining contractors, we operate throughout the UK, and have experience in working in every type of commercial and residential property.
We are currently working on a high end a £30million basement addition and refurbishment of a prestigious property in Notting Hill.
We are also currently working with developers Quinn London and Howarth Homes on 3 separate flat developments of 9, 12 and 24 number new build units in and around London. We have the internal and external plastering and dry lining packages on these, plus floor screeding.
We have installed Monocouche rendering systems from Webber, Parex and K Rend. These through coloured render systems are becoming more and more popular, and we have several customers who are delighted with the houses once finished by us.
We have been involved in many projects for private developers, and large commercial organisations such as Careys PLC, Wates Construction Limited, Wates retail, VolkerFitzpatrick and Costain PLC., Griffcon Limited, Howarth Homes, Quinn London and Stratford Developments.
We have good office back up, and are fully conversant with all good health and safety laws and practices. All our site managers are SSSTS or SMSTS certified site supervisors, and all directly employed operatives are CSCS registered. We are fully signed up to the CITB, and we are now also on Constructionline.
We are currently working on a Crossrail project for the same company in Ilford, East London, which includes the supply and install of 300m2 of acoustic panelling to a plant room, and raised access flooring, along with lay0in grid ceilings and varied types of wall linings. We subsequently completed works on a similar, but smaller, project on Welbeck Street for the same client We are on the supply chain for Wates Limited. and have now completed works on 3 new Schools for them. These are each circa £200,000 value dry lining and suspended ceiling packages for us, and have all gone smoothly. Interfacing with the other trades in these commercial and residential projects is critical to the smooth running of the project, both at the work face, and in the offices in the background. We excel in this, and always aim to minimise any delays through not talking to one another We have also carried out the dry lining package on the re-development of the 02 centre on London’s Finchley road for Wates retail Limited, working various shifts to accommodate the Centres requirements to remain open during normal trading hours.
In 2012 we were awarded the interiors package for a new residential/commercial office space development on Bentinck Street in London’s West end.
This involved metal stud partitioning, Metsec framing, suspended metal pan ceiling’s, and raised access flooring, and had a value to us of in excess of £650,000. This went so well, the main contractor, VolkerFitzpatrick, didn’t go out to open tender on the next project around the corner, but was more than happy to negotiate with us directly. We have also carried out work on two rail depots for the same company, and managed to deal with all the ramifications that come with being trackside on Network Rail projects. These projects involved the installation of glass office partitioning and screeding.
In 2002 we were involved in the re-development of Erith Town Centre for Careys PLC in the construction of 48 flats, both private and social housing.
Our responsibilities included the installation of all party walls and sound limiting details to conform to the recently introduced Part E, (transfer of sound), regulations. We subsequently secured the internal partitioning and ceilings finishing of all flats. We were also involved in the fit out and fire protection to many of the commercial units that were to be sold or rented, which included the supply and installation of a ‘Luxalon’ metal tile ceiling to the main shopping area.
We were also the plastering and dry lining contractors involved in the development of the old ‘Gresham’ dance hall on London’s Holloway road for the same contractor. This was converted into a major supermarket chain local store, with 40 private and social housing apartments above. We have received satisfaction on the contracts we have had.
On completion of this housing development, on time and within budget of course, we were invited by Bryen and Langley of Erith to tender for the plastering and dry lining package to a new build 220 bedroom nursing home on the same site. We won this, and have since gone on to form an excellent working relationship with the contractor. We have since worked for them on the conversion of a former university campus in Canterbury, Kent, into a modern office building, and the construction of a new wing to a School in Kent.
We have worked on many projects for medium sized builders and developers.
One of these is Thameside Construction in Hertfordshire. In 2007 they were the main contractors in the conversion of a Grade II listed Barn, plus outbuildings, in Berkhamstead. We were involved in the internal packages here, but due to the protected listing of the barn, and the insistence of English Heritages that no gypsum plasters were to be used on the barn, all our works were with traditional lime mortars.
Our operatives had all been trained by Ty-Maw Lime Limited, a traditional lime mortar manufacturer in Wales, and had no problem in achieving finishes that were even beyond the aspirations of English Heritage.
Following the successful completion of this, we were the preferred contractor in another barn conversion in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire, for a private client. Again, we liaised with English Heritage on their behalf, and to the clients delight, English Heritage visited the site no more once we had become involved.
In early 2008 we were the plastering contractors on an exclusive new build on the very exclusive Courtenay Avenue, Hampstead. This new build 6 bed house was being constructed by Thameside Construction. This very highly specified building contained many modern features, such as stainless steel and glass, and also a huge elliptical staircase which dominated the entrance hall. Our plasterers had many difficult obstacles to overcome here, including the meeting of blockwork to steel, glass and concrete, and the plastering of the staircase string which had a central steel pillar which had to be equidistance to all points of the steps. Once again, Thameside delivered a fantastic product on time for its Client, and Hickey Limited was proud to have played its part.
In late 2008 and early 2009, Hickey Ltd was involved in the development of a new hospital mortuary at St Peters Hospital, Chertsey, for Costain Limited. Our remit here included the installation of the floor screeds, all partitioning and m/f ceilings, with a plastered finish, the installation of the tile and grid ceilings, the installation of the stainless steel faced clean room system, and the Monocouche render system to the external façade. This was our first project with Costain, and also our first in the health sector, and it went very well for all. The hygienic system to the mortuary rooms was installed by Komfort Systems from Birmingham, upon instruction from us, and under our supervision which worked very well. Our own plasterers applied the 3 types of Monocouche render to the externals, and this was a great success. On completion, all colours worked well together, and the finish achieved was excellent
Costain were delighted with our involvement on this project, and we are looking to be involved in more of their health sector works in the near future.
The Clarendon Arms Public House in Chandlers Cross, Herts was converted to an exclusive restaurant in late 2009. The finishes to this state of the art restaurant were to be second to none, and Hickey Limited didn’t disappoint. We were responsible for the installation of the floor screed, plastering of the new and existing walls to an immaculate finish, and to the new ceilings throughout. We used a lime mortar finish to the externals to blend in with the dated appearance of the building, and we installed a fully washable ceiling to the kitchen.
We have completed the plastering, dry lining and screeding works to a select development of 5 new executive homes in Tring, Hertfordshire, for Stratford Developments. These top of the range homes sold within weeks of their launch, and their success was due in part to the excellent quality of the interior finishes. we have subsequently worked with them on 2 other prestigious developments in Watford.
Careys PLC constructed a new ambulance and fire station in Hertfordshire, for Watford Borough Council, with 14 number 1 and 2 bed apartments above. We were successful in our tendering here, and again delivered our plastering, dry lining, suspended ceilings and floor screed packages on time, in budget, and to the high standards demanded by this very discerning contractor.
In 2011 and 20012 we were working with Careys on the Olympic Park in Stratford, East London. This highly demanding project was high pressure, as the end date was set in stone! Our contract value here went from an initial £10,000 to nearly £240,000 as the project expanded, showing our ability to adapt as the demands of a project change. We installed fireline walls and ceilings to a newly constructed Biomass electricity generator within a retained building, built new offices for the site management, and constructed welfare facilities’, including the walls, ceilings and raised floors.
